Weekly Reflection: Returning to the Serenity Prayer

Some weeks feel heavier than others.
There’s a lot going on — in the world, in our personal lives, and in our careers. When everything seems to be happening at once, clarity can seem elusive. In such times, I find solace in one of my favorite prayers — not because it eliminates uncertainty, but because it helps me face it with peace.
The Serenity Prayer has always been a grounding reminder for me. A pause. A breath. A way to reset when patience is running thin or answers seem distant.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.
Surrender Without Giving Up
Yielding to God doesn't imply that we cease to care or make efforts. It signifies that we let go of the illusion that we must control everything.
Certain aspects of life — such as timing, results, and the decisions of others — were never ours to manage. Releasing these is not a sign of weakness.
It's an act of trust.
Trust in the belief that God is at work, even when it's not visible to us yet.
The Courage to Stand Firm
What I appreciate about this prayer is that it goes beyond mere acceptance.
It calls for courage — the bravery to take action where we are meant to act.
To stand up for our beliefs.
To make choices that reflect our values.
To take responsibility for what we can control.
Faith isn’t passive. It encourages us to approach life with integrity and purpose.
Wisdom in the In-Between
There's also the aspect that seems particularly pertinent in times of uncertainty:
The wisdom to know the difference.
The wisdom to discern when to advance — and when to pause.
When to express — and when to remain silent.
When to act — and when to completely entrust it to God.
Not everything requires fixing. Not everything demands an immediate answer.
Some things just need time.
A Gentle Invitation for This Week
If this week seems too much to handle, let this prayer be your grounding support.
You are not required to bear everything alone.
There is no need to hurry clarity.
There is no need to compel results.
Embrace what is beyond your control.
Take action where you feel led.
Leave the rest in God's hands.
Often, the deepest peace arises not from having all the solutions, but from knowing whom to entrust them to.
