Weekly Reflection: The Greatest Gifts Are Still Priceless

This time of year naturally encourages us to take things slower.
Christmas brings a gentler, more purposeful spirit. We come together with family and friends, share longer laughs, and strive to create lasting memories for our children. Although giving gifts is a lovely way to show love, it's easy to become preoccupied with the material aspects—like the wrapping, the lists, and the pressure to achieve perfection.
As 2025 draws to a close and we get ready to embrace a new year, I've been contemplating what this season truly signifies—and what I want to carry forward into 2026.
The Symbolism of Christmas
At its essence, Christmas serves as a reminder of love, humility, and presence. It encourages us to focus on what truly matters—not on what we can purchase, but on what we can offer of ourselves.
This season reminds us that:
Time is precious
Love is to be shared
And the most meaningful gifts are often the simplest
Christmas shouldn’t be hurried. It should be experienced.
Two Clear Truths That Emerged This Week
Reflecting on the past year, two truths stood out to me:
1. Our time on this earth is finite.
This makes the way we choose to spend it incredibly important.
2. The most valuable gifts in life are beyond price.
These gifts don't come in packages, can't be replaced, and often go unnoticed unless we take the time to recognize them.
Some of the most meaningful moments include:
Strolling through the park with our dogs
Cycling with gentle music playing in the background
Donating our time to a cause bigger than ourselves
Studying the Bible with a close friend
Enjoying pizza, games, and movie nights at home
Snuggling with loved ones, simply being present
Playdates at the playground
These moments don’t require perfection. They ask for presence.
Embracing the New Year by Releasing the Past
As we enter 2026, it seems like the perfect moment to let go of what no longer benefits us:
Old habits that exhaust us
Expectations that don’t fit who we are becoming
Guilt over what we didn’t achieve
Fear of things beyond our control
Instead, let’s choose to celebrate what 2025 taught us—even the difficult lessons. Growth isn’t always gentle, but it always leaves us wiser if we embrace it.
Every season shapes us. Every year refines us.
A Call for the Upcoming Days
As we embark on a new week, a new month, and a new year, let us root ourselves in gratitude.
Not just during the holidays, but every day.
Gratitude for:
The people who accompany us
The lessons that have shaped us
The small joys that fill our days
The love that meets us where we are
May we step into 2026 with open hearts, lighter spirits, and a renewed dedication to living fully in the present.
Because ultimately, the memories we create, the love we share, and the moments we experience—these are the gifts that endure forever.
